The Santander IsFamily Chair (Intergenerational Solidarity within the Family) is an initiative set up by the Institute for Advanced Family Studies at UIC Barcelona in cooperation with Banco Santander.
Its purpose is to carry out research on intergenerational solidarity within the family, taken to mean the set of relations and actions aimed at preserving, developing and restoring cohesion between the different generations of a family.
The Chair promotes theoretical and empirical studies on all dimensions of family solidarity, as they have classically been defined, which include normative, affectual, associational, consensual, structural and functional aspects. (Bengtson & Roberts, 1991)
The research also pursues the formulation of social initiatives that support families in their efforts to provide education, care and help among family members.
